Automation
Streamlined. Efficient. Scalable.
See how I use the power of automation to streamline repetitive, large-scale design tasks

Streamlining Repetive Tasks
Wellington Fragrance | Wholesale Retailer
A top online leader in the wholesale fragrance industry.
Challenges:
-
Wellington has a vast catalog of hundreds of oils with new scents added frequently. The constant influx of new products required a significant and ongoing effort to create product mockups. Furthermore, each new scent also required a unique featured photo to represent it visually.
Solutions:
-
Photoshop scripting was used to streamline the mockup creation process. Using automation dramatically reduced the time required to generate product mockups, making the process instantaneous, saving time and budget, and allowing for a greater focus on featured scent photography's more creative and strategic aspect. The process also enables bulk changes to imagery across all products, simplifying updates and ensuring consistency.
Simplifying Massive Efforts
Masco Cabinetry | Manufacturing
A manufacturer and distributor of a range of cabinetry brands
Challenge:
-
Masco Cabinetry produces catalogs annually for multiple cabinet lines, each tailored to specific retailers. Previously, this complex catalog production process was entirely manual, requiring a dedicated full-time team to build these catalogs page by page. This manual approach was incredibly time-consuming and prone to human error, impacting both efficiency and accuracy.
Solution:
-
I developed a library of templates using EasyCatalog, an InDesign plugin that allowed for the automatic pagination of catalog sections with a single click. The workflow was built using a rules-based system that ensured each product was automatically generated using the appropriate pre-designed template. This new process made it possible for an entire catalog to be generated by a single person in a few minutes instead of the previous month-long effort by a dedicated team. Additionally, directly pulling information from the data source significantly improved accuracy and drastically reduced the amount of time spent on proofing and correcting errors.

Improving a Time Consuming Workflow
Martin & Snyder | Wholesale
A wholesaler offering a diverse selection of tobacco products and accessories.
Challenges:
-
Martin & Snyder's manual catalog creation process was time-consuming and inefficient, hindering their ability to make updates and especially bulk changes. This manual workflow created bottlenecks and made it difficult to manage their catalog production effectively.
Solutions:
-
I designed an automated catalog template using InDesign's data merge feature. This template allows for the automatic generation of the entire catalog, pulling product information directly from a data source. This eliminated manual data entry, ensured consistency, and enabled easy design modifications to individual products and efficient bulk updates across the entire catalog. The new workflow significantly improved efficiency and gave Martin & Snyder greater control over their catalog production.
